Arctic Fox Fun

In our Ice Castles box from Experience Early Learning, we have learned all about animals we find in the coldest climates including Penguins, Polar Bears, Snow Leopards, and the beautiful Arctic Fox.

We discussed why the arctic fox has white fur (camouflage) and what it would be trying to hide from (polar bears), and also what it eats, small animals and berries, making it an omnivore. While we were talking about berries, my girl remembered the book Blueberries for Sal and asked that we read it. I love it when she makes connections like that.

As an Experience Early Learning (EEL) Blogger, I receive the EEL Preschool Curriculum in exchange for my honest opinions and authentic stories about our experiences using the curriculum. All opinions and thoughts are completely my own.

Blueberries for Sal is an adorable book about a child and bear cub getting their mommas mixed up while scavenging for blueberries, and it led perfectly into our Foxes and Berries game from Experience Early Learning.

They sent us the game board, berry pieces and foam die. My kiddos practiced rolling the die, number association, and one to one correspondence as they counted out the berries. My 6 year old would roll twice and subtract the small number from the large one and place that many berries on her board. My 3 year old just worked on rolling and counting. I love how easily I can adapt these games to my learners who are 3.5 years apart!

After playing our game, I put out the supplies for our Invitation to Create Arctic Foxes. Experience Early Learning sent us the napkins, black foam adhesives, and cardstock background paper. I supplied glue, crayons, scissors, and later on glitter as my girl decided she needed the snow to sparkle.

My 3 year old son decided to add his 3 stickers to the napkin to make the fox face. He then asked to add some berries since that is what the arctic fox eats.

Meanwhile, my 6 year old drew a fox on her napkin and then carefully cut it out. She also used the 3 stickers for a face, but it still felt incomplete in her eyes. She then asked me for glitter to make sparkling snow. A quick rub of glue stick and sprinkle of silver glitter were the final touches to her Arctic Fox.

I love how these things are ready to go in our daily discovery bags! Having a game and art supplies all ready to go make learning easy and fun for both me and the kiddos! I am so thankful for finding Experience Early Learning even 4.5 years later!
