“I Am Special” Tree

So God created man in His own image, in the image of God, He created him, male and female He created them.

The thought that we are created by an infinitely creative God who creates us in His image yet completely unique to one other is just mind boggling. Not to mention, every person on the planet has a different set of fingerprints. Over 7 billion people are on this planet and each one is unique. Each one is special and each one is created in His image.

Our newest box from Experience Early Learning is all about Friends and Feelings and one of our first lessons was on noticing what makes us special. My kids loved looking into mirrors and noticing what was the same and also different between them. Just like the oak tress throughout our yard- their branches spread in different ways, each trunk leans a little differently, each of us is the same yet special in our own way.

That’s why I loved the I Am Special Tree Invitation to Create.

Experience Early Learning sent us brown and blue cardstock and red stickers. I supplied the paint, crayons, and scissors. My kids used their arms and hands to create a tree, using their own unique fingerprints to create branches and leaves.

The red sticker apples were the finishing touches to their trees, but then they started adding extras. My daughter drew herself under her tree and told a story of how she was going to pick the apple that had fallen to the ground.

My 3 year old son narrated a story of a dragon and all the muddy footprints he left as he was flying around the tree (see the brown dots on the right side of his work).

I love how they started with the same supplies and still ended up creating a work of art completely unique to them. Just like the Lord… He created us all with similarities, yet each one is unique and special.
