SNS: Science Notebook Sunday- Picture of the Day

I've reached my goal this weekend! In fact I have done 3 posts in 3 days!! I am so proud of myself!   Since my science notebooks are set up the same way as my math ones, I wont go into detail as to how they are set up.  If you want to find out how I set them up you can read my post here, or decorating them is here, or being able to close the giant monstrosities here. I love...

Journey to the Center of the Earth…. Model

So this week we started Earth Science... one of my faves!!!! My TEK stated that the students were to build a model of the layers of the earth, but when they know nothing about the earth it makes the concept of building kind of tough.   So we started from square one: KWL chart, and they came up with some great questions under the W.  One of my students even asked "My dog digs in the...

Go SPEED Racer!!

This week I am teaching my 6th graders about speed: what is it? what changes it? how do we measure it? and how do we graph it?  Today I am engaging my learners into what it is and having them make a rough sketch of what the line graph might look like. I started with having them write all the synonyms they could think of for the word speed for one minute with their group.   I also...

May the FORCE be with you….

That's what we have been studying the past couple of weeks- force and how and what balanced and unbalanced forces do to an object.  I really wanted to hit home the fact that force depends on mass or the height something is released.  I can say it all I want, but when the kids do it... and observe what happens... it makes it so much more meaningful.   Here is a brief (sike! I...

It’s been FOR-EV-ER…. FOR-EV-ER

Don't you just love the movie The Sandlot??  I use that quote all the time with my kids.... "Y'all are taking FOR-EV-ER....."   Most of them have no clue as to what I am referring, but I just start smiling. Anyway lots of changes going on....I am now the Children's Ministry Director for my church and I am absolutely loving it.  I love working with  the kids, teaching...

Living and Non Living with the LION KING!!

One of the life science TEKS I have to teach is abiotic and biotic factors, which are just fancy names for living and non living things in an ecosystem.  But more importantly, I have to teach the interdependence biotic factors have on abiotic items and vice versa. There is no better way to teach this than through the first 4 minutes of Lion King.  Here is what we did:Defined and...

Grading Science Notebooks Makes Me Wanna….

SCREAM!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!   But this year... that is NOT going to be me. (Hopefully)  I have an "idea" on what to do, and I got it at the CAMT Conference a few weeks ago.  First of all, it involves these stickers... and lots of them... but they're cheap and worth it...  You can get them at Wal-mart or Staples.  I use them for all sorts of stuff.  Anyway......
